10 Days in Paradise!

Words can’t describe the time we have had with Sea Change. The Staff, accommodation, food, adventures, beaches, watercolours, whales, sunsets, sunrises, stars and so much more made our trip so special. I’m beyond grateful to have experienced something so rare and beautiful. Sea Change was a breath of fresh air, the pinnacle of a relaxing holiday for my wife and I. Leave your shoes at home and enjoy the simple things in life. Refreshingly basic which allowed us to really detox from our busy lives and focus on us. The layout and design of the retreat has really been thought out. Each Fale is private with ocean views that really accentuates the remote tropical island feel while maintaining all of the basic mod cons we expect. Cold beer, beautiful meals and many enjoyable nights can be spent at the central sand floor bar and restaurant where we enjoyed a cocktail or two as the sun set across the ocean. Sea Change is definitely a once in a lifetime trip and for us not the last. Thanks to all the lovely people from Sea Change for making our trip sensational.

I just love this place soooo much!!!

My husband and I returned here this August after loving it so much last year. I was a little worried because it was so fabulous and I thought maybe the second time wont be as good. I needn't have worried - it was absolutely fabulous!!! Whale watching, perfect resort with great facilities, wonderful food and great hosts and fantastic staff! It is always a surprise who you will meet and again we were not disappointed. Some of the staff remembered us and treated us like long lost friends, age appears irrelevant here and you can do as much or as little as you like. Can't wait to return!

Best place ever- whale tours, amenities and people.

That is one of the best locations I've stayed. The owners Maria and Clint are very friendly and really make you feel welcome. The team is very friendly and really likable. Clint and Maria created that personalized welcome experience where everyone feels comfortable no matter of what brought you to the island, whale watching, or a desperate need to recharge your batteries. Experiences: Whale watching is a must. That beats any experience I've had. Team makes you feel great swimming with the giants. Must do! Snorkeling - can do without boat support, whenever you feel like it, walking distance and short (2min) swim) to beautiful reefs with a lot of fishes and sea stars. I am a runner - best runs around the island on the beach- 10K and hey, they look good on Strava:). Clint and Maria cleaned a path through the trees to the other side of the island and in 10 minutes you can get to an absolutely private beach, my husband and I spent hours and we haven't seen anyone else on the other side. We did a photo-shoot. Amenities: Excellent bed mattresses, Hot showers, privacy, the cabin is ocean view. The service is excellent, the food is great. They have a chef from the UK and he makes every dinner an experience. Drinks: you can get a mixed drink, a fancy tropical mix or if you really are into wines they have a dissent collection of wines. Feel happy and rested after the island time and even a 40 hrs flight back to US cannot change that. Highly recommend.

Best trip I've ever had

My wife and I just returned from a trip to Sea Change and although it was a long haul from where we live in the U.S. it was well worth it! Pictures simply put don't do the place justice. We were greeted by a warm and friendly staff. Clint and Maria, the owners, were simply superb and made sure that we were happy. The main reason we traveled there was to experience swimming with whales and we were not disappointed! Wow! The Sea Change guides are knowledgeable, safety conscious, and also excellent photographers. I also went out fishing twice with Mahe, one of the Sea Change guides, and caught tuna as well as some other species just a 10 minute boat ride away from the resort. You better have the drag set because these fish strip some line! If you're a triathlete, you won't find a better place for open water swim training than Sea Change. Sea Change is adventure travel. It is not a place to go to watch television. It's a place to a have a life experience. We sure did.

Fabulous place to stay (AND banoffee pie!)

A group of 8 friends booked to spend a week so we could enjoy each other’s company in a relaxed atmosphere with the added bonus of whale swimmingly. We certainly achieved our aims! What makes the experience at Sea Change so special is the staff. It is a small team and over the course of the week we got to know all of them and to appreciate their particular abilities. They also treated us exceptionally well. The eco resort is a balance of economy and ecology. Being on a largely pristine uninhabited tropical islands, They aim for a low impact on the environment, an attribute we very much appreciate. They also don’t have a huge investment in structures so there is a large degree of economy. For the price of an average hotel we got comfortable beds, indescribably exceptional food, a drop dead gorgeous beach at our doorstep and a raft of activities (mainly beach oriented) there for the taking. A group of the staff are licensed to do the whale swimming. They are knowledgeable, obliging and accommodating. Despite being Australians (a little Kiwi/Aussie there) they were wonderful company and very entertaining. The whales are an experience everyone should aim for. Despite the isolated location and logistical difficulties of obtaining supplies the food was exquisite. Especially the banoffee pie. On request we were treated to a second serving. (This alone warrants Sea Change rating 6 stars). Be warned, this resort is so beach side that there are no paved surfaces except in your fale. It’s bare feet and sand between your toes each and all day. There are composting toilets and semi open showers. This is not the place for those who insist on total creature comforts. But for the traveler wanting a different beach side experience this is a must. Thanks to Clint, Maria and the team for a wonderful holiday.

Heaven on earth

The epitome of a tropical paradise. I’m worried that staying at Sea Change has ruined all other beaches for me, it is that beautiful. I had the best sleep of my life here- listening to the sound of the waves from the super comfy bed in the fale. The stars are unbelievable. Mornings were for swimming in the beautiful blue sea— just steps away from the fale. There are plenty of activities if you’re feeling ambitions— paddleboarding, walking around the island, snorkeling right off the shore... or, curl up in a hammock, relax and read a book. Unfortunately, I wasn’t here during whale season— a great excuse to return! Sea Change perfectly provides comfort in a rustic, private setting. Clint and Maria are so passionate about their place, and it shows in every detail. Thanks guys for the wonderful experience!!

Paradise

What a wonderful place Sea Change is! The location is perfect, with a beautiful beach you can swim at any tide and reefs great for snorkeling. The fales are comfortable and set among lush tropical forest, looking out to the beach. The staff are just lovely, very friendly, welcoming and attentive; the chef kept us well-fed with delicious fresh food. There are so many great experiences to be had, the most incredible being swimming with humpback whales! I can't wait to come back!

Tropical Island Holiday

The week spent at Sea Change Eco Retreat was the highlight of the year for me. It's a small, low key resort with super friendly staff, nestled among coconut palms that line a long, almost empty beach. I loved the very basic but utterly comfortable accommodation - the airy timber fale with its deck facing the sea, big windows letting the tropical breeze flow through, comfy beds with mosquito nets, the natural sounds of wind in the surrounding vegetation or night rain on the roof, the occasional bird, the soothing lapping of waves. Lovely meals were served in the "dining room" - a covered shelter with a sandy floor, immediately adjacent to the beach. I highly recommend this place for a holiday far from the daily grind where you can swim, snorkel and paddle board in safe, warm water and also enjoy hot showers in an outdoor bathroom. It was a restful time but also thrilling, to be taken by experienced and knowledgeable guides to watch and swim with humpback whales.

“Amazing food!”

We ate there every night of our stay and it was so, so delicious. Every evening there was a fish, meat and vegetarian option full of the delicious greens and herbs that are grown there....we live in Tonga and being able to produce this deliciousness given the remoteness is an art form! The wine selection whilst small was really nice also. Highly recommended, reasonably priced and amongst the best meals I have had in Tonga in two years living here. I am still dreaming about my vegetable tangine....followed by chocolate brownie...
