What a wonderful place Sea Change is! The location is perfect, with a beautiful beach you can swim at any tide and reefs great for snorkeling. The fales are comfortable and set among lush tropical forest, looking out to the beach. The staff are just lovely, very friendly, welcoming and attentive; the chef kept us well-fed with delicious fresh food. There are so many great experiences to be had, the most incredible being swimming with humpback whales! I can't wait to come back!

Tropical Island Holiday

The week spent at Sea Change Eco Retreat was the highlight of the year for me. It's a small, low key resort with super friendly staff, nestled among coconut palms that line a long, almost empty beach. I loved the very basic but utterly comfortable accommodation - the airy timber fale with its deck facing the sea, big windows letting the tropical breeze flow through, comfy beds with mosquito nets, the natural sounds of wind in the surrounding vegetation or night rain on the roof, the occasional bird, the soothing lapping of waves. Lovely meals were served in the "dining room" - a covered shelter with a sandy floor, immediately adjacent to the beach. I highly recommend this place for a holiday far from the daily grind where you can swim, snorkel and paddle board in safe, warm water and also enjoy hot showers in an outdoor bathroom. It was a restful time but also thrilling, to be taken by experienced and knowledgeable guides to watch and swim with humpback whales.

“Amazing food!”

We ate there every night of our stay and it was so, so delicious. Every evening there was a fish, meat and vegetarian option full of the delicious greens and herbs that are grown there....we live in Tonga and being able to produce this deliciousness given the remoteness is an art form! The wine selection whilst small was really nice also. Highly recommended, reasonably priced and amongst the best meals I have had in Tonga in two years living here. I am still dreaming about my vegetable tangine....followed by chocolate brownie...

“Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!”

I spent 9 days here in September 2015 and loved it. So much so that I have already booked another week for 2016! In 2014 the resort was in the process of being built so we could not stay there. I knew what their plan was, but wasn’t sure what to expect at the end, as they are literally on the beach on a remote island. Well, everything ended up being beyond my expectations. It was so great that I cannot decide what I loved the most. I loved being on that stunning, secluded island. I loved my unit and its beachfront location. I loved falling asleep to the sound of the waves. I loved the sunsets and the stunning view on the volcano. I loved having breakfast while spotting the whales... I loved the food, which was so fresh, so delicious, and so beautifully presented. And I was really impressed about the fact that the resort is built in an Eco friendly way. They are using solar panels and composting toilets and the units design/set up means that they are not invasive in the environment and can be removed. The other great thing is that they have a little vegetable garden, so every day we had fresh salads, which believe me, is a bit of a luxury in a place like Tonga. And to top everything up, we had a great time on the boat, observing many whales every day.

“Friendly and innovative Eco resort”

Whilst we did not stay here, we came by often and enjoyed a drink or two. Wow!!! Very luxurious tents are constructed upon timber platforms with queen sized bed inside and outdoor table and chairs. This resort also had terrific outdoor bathrooms that have solar powered hot water and composting toilets. They looked amazing and very, very clean. They also keep a hydroponic veggie garden. Everything runs off solar power as well, making it a truly Eco resort. They also offer on site whale swims and diving. We will definitely stay here when we return to Tonga.

“Amazing time!”

We had the pleasure of enjoying the charm and wonderful exerience of Uoleva island and a sense of the real 'Tonga'. We felt like we had the island to ourselves, truely a unique experience. The nicest suprise was that we could not have been more comfortable; hot, full pressure showers and a bed that was the best nights sleep in the region. Oh yeah, and the best meals in memory, a delicious variety with wonderful vegetarian options every time. It is unique experience at a very resonable price. We had a wonderful time!

“Fantastic food, friendly owners”

We didn't stay in the resort, but ended up eating dinner here 3 times during our stay on Ha'apai. The resort was brand new when we were on the island (in July 2016). Lots of positives: The food is fantastic and such great value. There is also a bar area with stools to perch on. Life doesn't get much better having a cold beer after a day spent swimming with whales! We spent a month travelling around the South Pacific and Ha'apai was the highlight of our trip. When stuck in an office in rainy London, knowing there is an island like that on the other side of the world gives you something to be positive about! Stay and eat here, you won't regret it.

“Fabulous - exceded all expectations”

With golden sandy beaches and gin clear water the location on Uoleva Island is stunning. The tents are really luxury bedrooms with a super comfy bed and lovely linen and towels. Bedside tables with lamps and places to put clothes and the view out to the sea and reef are magical. The path to the adjacent bathroom block is lit at night by fairy lamps and the gas hot water shower is a treat after a long swim. No issues at all with the composting toilet. The meals each night were well priced and with a choice of 3 mains and a great desert (all fresh local produce) it was hard to choose. We had 2 great days swimming with the whales and otherwise walked and read in the hammocks, swam and had a total battery recharge. We will be back next year!

“Great hospitality and delicious food”

We were staying on Uoleva Island and popped in off the beach for a drink on their opening week! Great hospitality, great company and absolutely delicious home cooked meals with fresh Tongan fish and ingredients - all difficult to procure on this remote island! The bar offers a variety of chilled drinks. Bookings for meals for non residents is advisable. Our experience with their Ha'apai Whale Watch was breath-taking!
