Discover the Untouched Beauty of Uoleva Island's Beaches
At Sea Change Eco Retreat, we are privileged to be based on Uoleva Island—a breathtaking, uninhabited paradise in the heart of Tonga’s Haʻapai island group. With no roads, no crowds, and often no other people in sight, exploring Uoleva’s beaches is like stepping into your own private world.
One of the most rewarding experiences during your stay is walking the full circuit of the island, a serene journey that takes around 3 to 4 hours and is approximately 10 km long. This coastal walk is best done during low tide, when expansive stretches of white sand are revealed and shallow lagoons shimmer under the sun. Our team is always happy to advise you on the best times to go.
As you explore, you’ll discover miles of pristine, untouched beaches, crystal-clear shallows, and lush coastal vegetation. You may spot sea birds, hermit crabs, and vibrant marine life in the tidal pools—but you’ll rarely see another soul. It’s the kind of tranquility that’s hard to find anywhere else. Also grab some snorkelling gear to take on your walk, and make sure to wear or bring a swimsuit so you can take multiple swims to cool off as you explore.
If you’d prefer a shorter adventure, you can split the island walk into two halves. A private pathway from the back of Sea Change cuts across the island, winding through a unique coconut forest—a peaceful, shaded contrast to the open beach.
Whether you walk the entire island or just a portion, the beaches of Uoleva offer a rare chance to connect with raw, untouched nature in a deeply personal way. At Sea Change Eco Retreat, we invite you to slow down, explore mindfully, and let the rhythm of the island guide your journey.
For your comfort and safety, we recommend bringing plenty of water, wearing sun cream, and using sturdy footwear such as jandals or walking shoes. It is also best to let one of our staff know when you depart and your planned route, and we will let you know about any activities or meals so you can plan your return timing.
