Getting to Sea Change Eco Retreat

Your Journey to Paradise

The Journey

  • International Flight to Tonga (Tongatapu)

Your journey begins with an international flight to Fuaʻamotu International Airport (TBU) on Tonga’s main island, Tongatapu. The following airlines offer regular flights to Tonga:

    Air New Zealand from Auckland

    Qantas from Sydney

    Fiji Airways from Nadi

Tip- Overnight Stay in Tongatapu: To ensure a relaxed and worry-free connection to your domestic flight, we strongly recommend spending your first night on the main island of Tongatapu after your international arrival. This gives you a buffer in case of flight delays and lets you begin your holiday at a comfortable pace.  Also please note we highly recommend you contact Lulutai Airlines when you arrive on the main island to confirm your booking and connecting flight time with them.  You can let us know of any changes via Whatsapp (+64 21 800 396) or email at info@uoleva.com – and we generally check on all flights on our end too so are usually aware of changes.  We can also provide advice on booking a taxi – which will cost around TOP $100 each way to the main city of Nukualofa where most of the accommodation options are located (45 minute taxi ride).

  • Domestic Flight to Ha'apai

From Tongatapu, you’ll take a domestic flight with Lulutai Airlines to the Haʻapai Island group—a short but spectacular 40-minute flight over coral reefs and turquoise lagoons.  Please get to the domestic terminal at least 2 to 3 hours before your flight departs to ensure you will be boarded.  It takes around 45 minutes to get from the main city of Nukualofa to the domestic terminal.

    Booking Your Lulutai Flight:
Up-to-date information and instructions for booking your domestic flight can be found here: Lulutai Airlines

  • Boat ride to Sea Change

Once you arrive in Haʻapai, we’ll be waiting to personally greet you at the airport and provide your transfer to Uoleva Island (look for Sea Change t- shirt on our staff), including a scenic 20 minute boat ride to our secluded retreat.  We highly recommend you pack things in water resistant bags, and your precious items in a “dry bag”.  When our staff take you to the local boat wharf to get on one of our boats, please stay on the upper deck of the wharf as the lower decks by the water are very slippery!   There is always a chance it may rain on our boat trip, and there is usually a little sea spray.  You will be getting off one of our boats straight onto our amazing beach in ankle deep water, so best to wear shorts and sandals (aka jandals) – or even consider wearing a swimsuit as you can jump off our boat in front of Sea Change and swim in to start your holiday!

Final notes:

We’re happy to provide recommendations for trusted accommodation options on Tongatapu—just let us know your preferences and budget.

Whether you're coming from New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, or beyond, getting to Sea Change Eco Retreat is a journey into the heart of untouched Tonga. From the moment you step off the plane in Haʻapai, you're on island time—and we're here to take care of the rest.
